About Counseling

Counseling is a way to make sense of what you’re going through—whether that’s stress, anxiety, big emotions, or feeling lost or stuck. It’s a space to get curious about your thoughts, your patterns, and what really matters to you.

You don’t have to have it all figured out to begin. If you’re ready for something to shift, counseling can help you take that next step—on your own terms.

  • Start healing from what’s been holding you back.

Gently process past experiences and move forward with more freedom and hope.

  • Build confidence and self-compassion.

Let go of harsh self-judgment and learn how to treat yourself with kindness and respect.

  • Feel more grounded and in control.

Learn how to manage stress and big emotions when life gets overwhelming.

  • Take real steps toward the life you want.

Whether it’s feeling more like yourself again, making a big change, or finding direction—therapy can help you get there.

What is counseling?

Counseling is a supportive and collaborative process where we work together to explore your thoughts, emotions, and life experiences. It’s a space to understand yourself more deeply, build helpful tools, and create meaningful change.

What’s the difference between counseling and therapy?

The terms counseling and therapy are often used interchangeably—and in many cases, they refer to the same process of working with a trained professional to improve your mental and emotional well-being.

At Unfold Art Therapy and Counseling, sessions are always tailored to your unique needs—whether you’re looking for practical tools, deeper insight, creative expression, or all of the above.

Do I need to be in crisis to go to counseling?

Not at all. While some people start therapy during a tough time, many come simply to better understand themselves, work toward personal goals, or feel more grounded and fulfilled in daily life.

What kinds of things can I talk about in counseling?

Anything that feels important to you. This might include anxiety, stress, life transitions, self-esteem, relationships, identity, or feeling stuck. There’s no "wrong" reason to come to therapy.

How does counseling help?

Counseling can help you feel more emotionally balanced, confident, and clear about who you are and where you’re headed. It provides tools for managing difficult emotions, building healthier relationships, and living more in line with your values.

Where do you do counseling sessions?

All of our sessions are currently held virtually through telehealth. This means we connect via secure video calls from wherever you feel most comfortable—whether that’s at home, in your office, or another private space. You just need a device with a camera and a stable internet connection, and I’ll send you the link to join each session. It’s flexible, convenient, and safe!

What should I expect in a session?

Sessions are a time to talk openly about whatever is on your mind. You’ll be listened to without judgment, and together we’ll explore what’s been going on, identify goals, and figure out practical steps toward positive change. We might also use tools from ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) or Adlerian psychology to help you move forward with more confidence and self-compassion.

How long do people usually stay in therapy?

It’s different for everyone. Some people come for a few months to work through a specific challenge, while others stay longer to explore deeper patterns and personal growth. We’ll work together to find a pace and path that feels right for you.

What’s your approach to therapy?

I draw from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Adlerian psychology, which means we’ll focus not only on what’s hard, but also on what’s meaningful to you. My goal is to support you in understanding yourself more fully and creating a life that feels authentic, aligned, and whole.

Is therapy confidential?

Yes! Everything we talk about in sessions is confidential, and I take privacy very seriously. The only exceptions are situations where safety is a concern, like if you’re at risk of harm. But you’ll always know if I need to share anything outside of our sessions.

Still have questions? I’m here to help and would love to connect with you as you take that first step toward the life you’re dreaming of.
